Someone know how to learn some kitana skills without a teacher?

i have a friend who loves to hold his sword fighting skills above everyones heads.. im really getting tired of him telling me how useless i am.i really want to knock him down a few notches. but problem is, hes not bad.. but hes not a real swordsman or anything, that bieng said, i have no skills at all, just the basic slash, witch is really useless... but i would like to learn, something. sooner or later im going to get an inferiority complex from all the times he puts me down. i just really want to learn this stuff... i would look for a dojo or something, but i have zip amounts of money, and no way to get there. can anyone help? i would be grateful, my friend seems to favor any sword, but i cant really tell u if he has any actual style.. i like the feel of kitanas though, but i know their harder to use. if anyone could really help me i would be grateful.. oh, yeah and another thing, i know sword styles cant be flashy.. but no matter how much i try practicing by myself it always turns into me trying to show off. ( i have a kinda cheap kitana, looks like ichigos tensa zangetsu from bleach, its not sharp, and has a black sheath made of wood. but its all i have to practice with.)
