Video effects and editing?

I need some tips, I've Sony vegas now. i want the option here of muzzel flashes and blood splat, smoke, and all those effects! the real looking ambiant and flashy effects. what program would be best to use? and that sony vegas would be able to support its effects or somthing. basicly a effects program i can use aswell as vega to some degree
